Welcome to the 2025 Virology Symposium! This dynamic research seminar brings together local, national and international experts to discuss a broad spectrum of virus-related topics, thematically organized into five key areas of virology research:
- Phylogenetics, virus spread and outbreak preparedness
- Retroviruses: Epidemiology, pathogenesis and host responses
- Emerging diseases, virus interventions and prediction
- Viruses causing tumors and autoimmunity
- Networks.
Register here if you want to join the research seminar. Please indicate if you will be attending in person or online.
Following the seminar, you are invited to attend the formal inauguration of the Lund University Virus Centre (LUVC) by Vice Chancellor Erik Renström. Among the speakers are Niklas Arnberg, professor in Virology at Umeå Universit, as well as representatives from the region and industry. The inauguration will take place at the Agardh venue, CRC, Jan Waldenströms gata 35, Malmö. Register here to participate in the inauguration.
Keynote talks:
It is with great pleasure that we welcome our keynote speakers, Professor Philippe Lemey and Adjunct Professor Ali Mirazimi.
Professor Philippe Lemey, Professor of Evolutionary and Computational Virology at the Rega Institute, University of Leuven, Belgium, is one of the world’s most prominent researcher in molecular epidemiology of viruses. His groundbreaking research has delivered critical insights into the origins and global spread of numerous viruses, including HIV, influenza, Ebola, Lassa virus, and SARS-CoV-2.
Adjunct Professor Ali Mirazimi, based at the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Karolinska Institutet, The Public Health Agency of Sweden, and the Swedish Veterinary Agency, and also Chairman of the Swedish Society for Virology, is a distinguished virologist whose extensive work has significantly advanced our understanding of viral pathogens and public health preparedness. His expertise has been particularly instrumental in addressing high-consequence pathogens such as Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), Ebola virus, and SARS-CoV-2.
