Ola Forslund (PI)

Principal Investigator, Associate Professor in Virology

Ola Forslund is a Senior Lecturer in Tumor Virology and Associate Professor in Virology at the Department of Translational Medicine, Medical Faculty at Lund University. 

Ola received his Ph.D in 1997 at Lund University, and performed postdoctoral studies at Umeå University and as a visiting research fellow at IMVS in Adelaide. From 2000 he was a Research Assistant at Lund University. From 2007 until 2023 he combined research with clinical virology diagnostics at Department of Clinical Microbiology, Skåne.

He has made significant contributions in the field of HPV, identifying a tool to identify 25 new HPV types, demonstrated an immune profile characterized by enhanced neutrophilic markers and reduced T cells in laryngeal papilloma, as well as demonstrated that HPV in self samples is reliable for detection of high grade cervical dysplasia. Due to his findings, Region of Skåne is now one of the leading settings globally for self-sampling used in screening of cervical cancer. 

His currently studying methylation in cervical cancer screening, HPV DNA in plasma, and interactions of bacteria and immune cells in laryngeal papilloma.

In addition to enjoy research, Ola likes long distance cycling trips, tennis, watching MFF (football), and spending time with family and friends.
